Where
do questions come from?
All
sorts of questions are likely to arise during the course of your work. Questions
may be triggered by:
- individual
patients - Individual patients or carers might ask you questions directly,
or you might be unsure about how to proceed. For example, a diabetic might
ask you if it is safe to inject insulin through their clothing

group initiatives - You and your colleagues might decide that you need
to find out more about issues that affect the local population. For example,
in an obstetrics unit, there might be concern about the current treatment
of eclampsia. The group might want to find out more about the effectiveness
of different anticonvulsants to treat eclampsia.
- national
initiatives - National or local initiatives or guidelines might be introduced.
For example, government guidelines for the prevention of heart disease
may prompt you to consider whether your current smoking cessation programmes
could be improve
